USA Taekwondo is excited to announce that the United States is bidding to host the World Taekwondo Championship tournament for the first time in 26 years. The City of Houston has partnered with USA Taekwondo and the State of Texas, with strong support from the United States Olympic Committee, to bid on the prestigious 2019 World Taekwondo Championships.

Each bidding country will make a presentation to the World Taekwondo Federation’s Executive Council on November 14 in Burnaby, Canada, and those presentations will be carefully considered before a decision is taken shortly after.

Should the bid be successful it is envisaged that the event will take place in Houston, Texas in July 2019.

USA Taekwondo Executive Director Keith Ferguson said: “It has been way too long since the United States hosted an event of this magnitude, and we are excited to be partnering with the great City of Houston and the state of Texas in an effort to put that right in 2019. The World Taekwondo Federation has an ambitious strategy to deliver a much more robust and deliverable events program in the coming years and USA Taekwondo strongly intends to ensure that our nation plays a role befitting its stature moving forward. The World Championships is, and always will be, the jewel in the WTF crown and we believe it is the right fit for the United States and that Houston is the ideal host city.

USA Taekwondo is encouraging U.S. taekwondo fans and players to tweet their support to @worldtaekwondo1 (WTF's official Twitter account) using the hashtag #TKDHouston2019 – let the world and the World Taekwondo Federation know you are backing the bid, and help us to bring this incredible event to our home!

We'll retweet the best!
